V-Mail from: Mrs. G. Shonkwiler to: Pvt George W. Shonkwiler April 23, 1945, Monday 11:10 PM
Hello honey,
I received a nice V-Mail card with a nice verse on it and so did Ronnie, dated April 12. It was nice to know you miss us and love us, although we had sort of suspected it. I only hope the love holds out after you return, too, as then is when we will want lots of it to make up for lost time. Well, to tell the truth, I guess we sort of miss our Daddy, too. The place just doesn’t seem the same without him, somehow. After all, what is home without a Daddy?
I’ve been pretty busy today as I did both the washing and ironing all in one day, although I just finished the ironing only 10 minutes ago. Tomorrow, I should wash the living room walls and woodwork, although I hate to tackle it, especially the ceiling.
Isn’t it wonderful that the Russians are in Berlin, won’t be long now. I’ll just keep on praying that we’ll see you soon.
All our love always, Mom and Ronnie
