V-mail from: Mrs. G. Shonkwiler to: Pvt George W. Shonkwiler Mar. 4, 1945 9:45 P.M. Sunday Eve.
Dearest,
While at this church tea I met Mr. and Mrs. Brady and a hundred other people, also a Mr. Rogers who was your Commerce Prof. at Indiana. He said he remembered you and Forrest and asked where you were, etc. I also met his wife and daughter. Edith is practically forcing Ronnie and I to attend S.S. and church with them, as she even told the kindergarten S.S. teacher that she’d be teaching Ronnie at Sunday school from now on. I know you don’t want me or Ronnie to join their church, but, what can I do without being rude? I’ve alibied ever since you left. I guess I’ll just tell them that I want to go to a Lutheran or Methodist church and not to theirs. All the people in their church are older than I am, too and if I went I’d know nothing but old people, and they don’t have the same interest I do. How I wish I’d moved somewhere far from Union Ave. when you left. And this constant fencing is getting me down more than you know.
I first talked to Marge on the phone, as I hadn’t seen her since last Sunday. Marge said she might be over someday this week, also that her brother is now in France and that his wife had a miscarriage. I’m going down the loop tomorrow afternoon and will meet Muriel for dinner and to shop.
I love you, darling, and wish you were here, Mom and Ronnie
