V-mail from: Mrs. G. Shonkwiler to: Pvt George W. Shonkwiler Mar. 4, 1945, 9:15 P.M. Sunday
My darling,
First thing after breakfast today Ronnie and I took a walk and mailed the letter I wrote last night. It was so nice today, sun shining and quite warm 44 degrees, just like a spring day. At 1:00 o’clock, Ernest came over to see us, as he didn’t attend church this A.M. because of a cold. Edith and Joan had gone without him. At 2:15, Edith called and insisted Ronnie and I come to a tee being held at church for a member who was leaving for Arizona next week. As Ernest had inquired earlier as to my plans, I couldn’t refuse. We went and sat and listened to different members extol this departing members virtues, etc. and had coffee and sandwiches later. During the program and speeches Ronnie got restless and ran all over and when I tried to make him sit still he’d either yell or cry. I couldn’t wait until it was over. Part of the time Ronnie sat and held a little girl’s hand. It was so sweet. She was a 4 yr. old blondie. I felt just as restless as Ronnie and altho the Hayes intended to stay for church, I asked to be excused, so Edith brought me home and left Ernest there.
See you in the next letter. Bye love, Mom and Ronnie
