V-mail from: Mrs. A. Shonkwiler to: Pvt George W. Shonkwiler Feb. 22, 1945 Thurs. 11:50 p.m.
Darling,
I wrote letters today to Catherine, Forrest, Gladys, Norma, Elinor, Elsie R., Helen, Norma Nelson, Chuck and Betty and Pearl Taylor, and I mailed them all forgetting to put stamps on them. Am I a dunce or am I? You see, I haven’t changed a bit. I went shopping for Tammy Tostis’s birthday gift, but couldn’t find anything. I bought a pattern for a dress for her, but they absolutely have no cotton on the market. Mrs. Page just gave me <? cyts> of striped cotton material that she bought some time ago. she <? alfuned> money for it
too. Imagine? Maybe I can make a dress for Tammy after all. They also treated me to coffee and chocolate doughnuts on an hour ago. I sure love nice treats, don’t I? After Ronnie and I were thru trying to shop, we had dinner at that lunch room on 111th near Mich. Ave. Had roast beef, peas, mashed potatoes, and coffee and ice cream, plus more potatoes with ice cream for Ronnie and it cost us 72 cents altogether. It was a nice eating out for a change, especially as I was out of red points, too. I still have had no calls on the ad I put in Wed. for our last pup. Guess I’m stuck with the little fellow. Ronnie wanted me to tell you he ate all his dinner tonight. I still have heard no news since you left to go <? ...> <? ...> <? ...>.
All our Love, always, Mom and Ronnie
