V-mail from: Mrs. G. Shonkwiler to: Pvt George W. Shonkwiler Monday Feb. 4, 1945 10:00 P.M. Noteworthy: Mom gets card about Dad’s being in the hospital.
My darling,
I’m rather worried as to why I haven’t heard from you for nine days now and that’s a long time for me to be held in suspense. I did get a card from the Casualty Branch in Wash., D.C. that you were convalescing on Jan. 26th from shrapnel wounds of face and forearms. Your last letter was dated Jan. 19th, so at least
I know that 10 days ago you were still in the hospital.
I didn’t go out of the house today and did sew on the red wool jersey blouse for which Edith Hayes gave me the material at Christmas. In fact it’s all done but the buttonholes. Ronnie seems perfectly well today and has eaten 3 good meals without losing a one, so guess he just had an upset stomach yesterday. I’m so glad he’s O.K., as I’m so worried when he shows any signs of not being up to par. I had a cup of coffee, cheese and crackers and cake (my donation) upstairs tonight. Guess they thought I looked lonesome again. Did I tell you they insisted on paying $5 of the $8.05 bill for repair of their refrigerator? Nice, I think? Good night, Darling, I’m going to bed early tonight. All our Love, Mommie and Ronnie
