Tuesday, 10:25 P.M.
Hello, honey,
Doggone, if you don’t get my letters pretty soon, I’m going to stop writing and
give it up as a bad job, or did I already say that once before?
Instead of ironing today, I canned four more pints of tomato juice - that makes
nine jars so far. I also canned seven jars of peaches. I’m just getting too
domesticated for words. My friends wouldn’t even know me. I can even can some
plums and pears if the ration board decides to send me coupons for some canning
sugars. I hope you like tomato juice as it’ll probably still be here when you
come back. I’m

harvesting 2 to 3 dozen daily out of my garden, and rather than waste them I
thought I might as well can the juice. I don’t care for canned tomatoes, but
do like the juice for an appetizer once in a while.
Mrs. Al Evers called me today. I had been thinking of calling her too, but
didn’t get around to it. She said Al had written to you at Blanding, but he
hadn’t received a reply, so had asked her to call to get your new address for
him. She also invited Ronnie and I for dinner next Wednesday, Aug. 30th. Did
you ever meet her? She’s a very pretty girl, and is working at Sherwin-Williams
office, I think. They have a boy younger than Ronnie. Her sister moved in
with her and takes care of the boy. They live at 10435 Prairie. Do you know
where

that is?
About 1:00 o’clock tonight, while Eleanor was playing "piggyback" with Ronnie,
who should walk in but Vida, Ben and Edamae Campbell. They said they hadn’t
seen the Hayes since we were there for dinner. I also heard some more history
of World War I from Ben. Vida also took your APO address and said she would
drop you a line soon. They left about 10:00 o’clock, and then Eleanor and I
had some cake and milk.
I’ve been having pains in my tummy the last couple days, again, altho I can’t
figure why, as I’ve cut out all fresh fruits and vegetables, altho I have been
eating fried foods, which I shouldn’t. For example, tonight
page 4
we had hamburger on buns, french fried potatoes and tomatoes, and peach cake
and coffee. Also raw onions and pickles on the hamburgers. It was good even
if indigestible.
Ronnie really got a man-sized roughing up with Ben as a playmate tonight and he
just laughed and laughed. Ronnie needs his Daddy to go thru a little rough
stuff with him every night, so don’t forget to hurry home as soon as this war
is won, or Ronnie will be a "sissy" with so many women around. And Mommy needs
to be told to "get going" once in a while, too. (What am I saying?)
Bye Darling, and behave,
Love
Mommy and Ronnie
