Hello Honey

Wonder of all wonders[,] I rec’d 4 letters and a valentine from my honey today.
I was so thrilled with the valentine, as I didn’t expect one.  Did you get my
Christmas cards?  Ronnie and I sent several, also valentines, but seems
<? rege> address of how early I send my cards you don’t receive them in time.
Mrs. Dixon brought the valentine you sent Bobby, over tonight.  It was cute,
too, and she says she’s going to save it for him.  I got a card from Bessie’s
Hinkle today saying she wants to be remembered to you and is still working at
the Hoosier Ordance Plant.  Veda Campbell called me today and also asked for
news of you.  Edith called and insisted I have a dinner with them tonight, so I
did.  Had pot roast, spinach, boiled potatoes, spinach and lemon pie.  It wasn’t
too bad but can’t quite see pot roast boiled in water as she does it and it has
very little flavor.  Guess I favor my own recipe.  The pie was good, however.
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be catty.  ’Taint nice!  I keep praying every night that
the war will be over and you’ll be home real soon.

Dear Wes,

Here I am again.  You mentioned in your letter that Mr. Ch. [Chamberlin] had a
hard time getting help for his home and office.  Wish I had known, perhaps I’d
have gone out to live with him last Fall, but now I wouldn’t know how to
arrange to go out there at all.  It’s impossible to drive with all this snow
and ice.  I may call him, however, and maybe he can think of something if he
still needs help.  I can certainly use some money, and I’m not joking.  The
letters I received today were dated Jan. 21, 23, 24 and 26th.  I got the Jan.
23rd yesterday, so I got the 3 letters and Valentine today, my error.

Mrs. Page’s brother is now overseas and in England.  I understood he was only
24 and I met him and didn’t think he looked older than that, but he is 37.  He
spent 2 or 3 years in a Florida army camp, until Nov., when he went across.
I still have 3 pups.  I may sell one of them tomorrow as a man is coming to
look at them.  Maybe I’ll have to give them away, eventually.  I got $15 and
$10 for the first two, but spent $4.00 having their tails cut off.  Do you hear
from Eggie?
