Letter from: A. Shonkwiler to: Private George W. Shonkwiler July 13, 1945, Friday, midnight.
Hello, honey.
Today was the last day of leisure for Jo and I as tomorrow we have to clean the cottage and pack our clothes and so on.
It doesn’t seem as though we’ve been here for two weeks, but we have, soI guess I’ll have to go home and take up where I left off. If only you were there waiting for me. I might as well stay dreaming as that would be too good to be true.
We didn’t do anything more

than usual today. When we finished breakfast, the Baileys, (Mrs. Bailey and two daughters, eleven and fourteen years old), came over and Claude played golf while the rest of us went swimming. Yes, even Ronnie, altho I guess he’ll have to wait until Daddy comes home to teach him how to swim. He sure loves to be out in a boat.
After supper tonight, we went to the show again to see Ida Lupinor and Sidney Greenstreet in a cute picture.
When we got home, we ate a whole watermelon between the seven of us.

After the kids were all tucked in, I read for a while and later Claude and I played double solitaire for a while until I decided it was time for me to drop you a line. Claude said to say hello for him and he said he hoped you’d get home soon as you deserve a break.
Well darling, no one wishes that more than I do. And of that, I’m sure.
I’m so sleepy right now, I better tuck myself in for the night as we have a lot to do tomorrow.

plus my having to drive over a hundred miles. Good night and please hurry home. We both miss you, so.
Love always, Mom and Ronnie.
P.S. I meant to send you the enclosed clippings of Mr. Dixon more than a month ago, but lost track of it until tonight when I found it in my stationery box.
PPS, Fenger won first place.
