v-mail from: Pvt George Shonkwiler to: Mrs. Alice Shonkwiler France 9 May 45, 9:30 p.m. Wed. Noteworthty: Dad’s favorite actress: Irene Dunne.
Dear Alice and Ronnie:
Back to V-Mail and not much news tonight. Already things are pretty much back to where they were last week. As far as we in the Army are concerned there has never been a change. We work just the same. No extra time off and no celebrating except after hours. Of course there are a few <? inot> G.I. drink[er]s but as a whole nothing much more than usual.
Just came back from seeing Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer in, [the show] "Together Again." Very good. Since Irene Dunne has always been my favorite Actress[,] I could put up with Charles Boyer. He was even better than usual. It’s very nice here tonite. Still very light yet and everything very peaceful and quiet. Too damn quiet - there isn’t anything to do and I’m afraid it’s going to be Like this <? shine> monotonous every day <? lafe> from now until no one seems to know. I am going to try to answer some more letters now so good night for now and how’s my little Ronnie tonite?
All my love to you both, Daddy
